Libaom v3.15 is now available. Here’s what’s new.

Behind many of today's highest-quality streaming and video communication experiences is libaom, the open-source AV1 codec library developed by the AOMedia Video Codec Working Group. Continuing its commitment to advancing open, efficient video technology, the group is excited to announce the release of libaom v3.15, code-named Quibble Pants*.

What’s New?

The latest version builds on the previously released v3.14 (code-named Pinkie Pie), which came out earlier this year. This newest release marks the completion of low-complexity decode mode (the encoder optimizations that produce videos decodable at low computational complexity) for VOD video encoding, which now supports HD resolution (i.e., 720p to 1080p) encoding. Intra block copy (IntraBC) for screen content encoding has been sped up as well, and this coding tool is now allowed for real-time mode.

Finally, libaom v3.15 includes the fixes for many security issues recently detected by AI tools. The libaom team stays vigilant and continues to scan libaom for security vulnerabilities by using all available tools, such as fuzzing, static and dynamic analyzers, and AI.
