AOMedia Honors SVT-AV1 Innovators

Dr. Pierre-Anthony Lemieux, Executive Director of AOMedia, presented the Technical Excellence Award for exceptional work on SVT-AV1 at an evening ceremony during the AOMedia research symposium.

The Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) steering group announced the winners of the inaugural AOMedia Technical Excellence award. The award recognizes and celebrates significant contributions to advancing open media standards for multimedia.

This year’s award winners were honored for "Exceptional contributions to the development and productization of SVT-AV1, " an open-source, CPU-based AV1 encoder.

The 2025 AOMedia Technical Excellence award recipients include:

The steering group recognized award winners at a ceremony and celebration during the AOMedia Research Symposium on November 13, 2025, in Los Gatos, California.

AOMedia is grateful for the awardees’ contributions to the SVT-AV1 projects, as well as the greater AOMedia mission to define and develop open media technologies and standards.
