AOMedia at SPIE Optics and Photonics in San Diego
The SPIE Optics and Photonics conference is coming up in San Diego this August, and AOMedia members Tencent and Google will be on hand to present a special session on Volumetric Visual Media Coding and Processing.
Dr. Shan Liu, distinguished scientist and general manager at Tencent, and Dr. Yaowu Xu, distinguished engineer and senior director of engineering at Google, will share the stage to dive into the details of volumetric visual media and its role in the future of media. The presentation will be part of Sessions 5 and 6, Immersive Imaging I and II on August 5th.
Volumetric visual media is an emerging 3D immersive technology that captures and represents objects or environments with depth and volume. This allows users to interact with digital content from multiple perspectives, creating a more lifelike, holographic experience.
Volumetric visual media is central to applications in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR), driving innovation across sectors such as gaming, filmmaking, animation, manufacturing, and cultural heritage. With the increasing market interest in extended reality, spatial and immersive media applications, we are seeing the demand for efficient volumetric visual data coding and processing technologies continue to rise.
Many companies and institutes have been investing in developing such technologies, and standard groups, such AOMedia’s Volumetric Visual Media Working Group, have been putting efforts on standardization of volumetric visual media compression.
Join this special session to hear more about these new technologies, how they can efficiently compress and process volumetric visual media data, and what recent standard activities are underway. Register for the event now.
