AV2 will upgrade your media streaming later in 2025
The Alliance for Open Media, or AOMedia for short, just announced that a new AV2 video codec is planned to arrive before the end of 2025. It's planned to be an upgraded version of the AV1 codec that was finalized in 2018, and serve as a 'foundational piece of AOMedia's future tech stack.'
