Wakefield, Mass., USA – Oct. 14, 2019 – The Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) today announced that Alliance members will present the latest AV1 video codec advances and real-world implementations the NAB Show's Streaming Summit, October 16-17, at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York. Co-produced by streaming industry expert Dan Rayburn, NAB's Streaming Summit will feature presentations, round-table discussions, and fireside chats that will address trends and technologies that are having a direct impact on the continued development, proliferation and profitability of online video.

AV1 offers a generational improvement in coding efficiency over any web codec and comes backed by nearly 40 companies, including leaders in the internet, technology, and media industries. This presentation will show three use cases where AV1 is improving online video compression and delivery today to:

  1. Provide infrastructure and data egress cost savings for high volume streaming sites

  2. Enable real-time video collaboration in bandwidth-constrained environments

  3. Grow the addressable video market with higher quality video at the lowest bitrates

The talk concludes with an overview of ongoing improvements in encoder performance and decoder penetration, which will increase the return on investment from AV1 in 2020 and beyond.
